Just For Today

Let it Rain

Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.  Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of His cloud to shine?  Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of Him which is perfect in knowledge?  How thy garments are warm, when He quieteth the earth by the south wind?

                                                                              Job 37: 14-17

Hee-O-Tee hot!  That’s what my grandfather used to say on hot muggy days.  About ten years ago we had a dry, hot summer.  We found ourselves seven inches below rainfall level and placed under a mandatory water restriction.  Our lawns once green burnt into golden hay; the ground hard cracked as it baked under the noonday sun.

Reporters compared this particular summer to the Dust Bowl of years past.  Why did this happen?  Was this God’s doing?  All we knew is we needed rain and soon.

As hot and muggy as summer was the clouds told a different story.  Big, fluffy clouds sailed by as the kids and I would lie on our backs and pull shapes out of them.  The fierce dragons, soaring motorcycles and parade of animals gave some distraction to our plight. What amazed us the clouds themselves looked ready to burst with rain.  The darker the billowy cloud was the more sure I was rain was at hand.  Not even a drop would fall.

Why all the dry arid heat?  I don’t know.  God told us in His word, “My ways are not your ways.”  I didn’t worry about why God held back His rain I knew that He would provide for us in His perfect timing.  Instead I stood in awe before Him and His wondrous works, f or He owns the storehouses of all the rain and in His time we where refreshed.
