Before the Throne Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 Many summers ago my family and I headed for the New Jersey Shore for a week-long fun filled vacation. Each morning and late afternoon we spent splashing in the ocean and collecting seashells. In the evenings we strolled the boardwalk and rode the rides. One night we found ourselves standing in front of an oversized ferris wheel called “The Big Wheel”. Looking up, my daughter and teenage niece begged me to take them on the ride. Throwing caution to the wind I agreed. As we took our seats anticipating the fun the ride finally began. High into the air we raised, much to my horror we were rising right over the ocean! I did the only thing I knew to do… I grabbed my daughter and we “Hit the Deck”!! My daughter squealing with laughter, my niece suggested we change seats so it wouldn’t be as scary. I changed my perspective and soon began to enjoy the ride. The sparkling lights from the boardwalk and the crashing of the surf became enjoyable and peaceful as the ride continued. Approaching the throne of God can be as terrifying if we don’t have the proper perspective of Whom we are approaching. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but it is just the beginning. As we continue to learn about God, by reading our Bibles, praying and seeking Him for all things, we learn to confess our sins and to boldly approach His throne and not “hit the deck”. If you do “hit the deck” when you go to the throne, don’t worry, just stay awhile and let God minister to you. Stay long enough to receive His mercy. Stay and be assured that you will receive enough grace to see you through all things. Written by Tammy Schlesinger Used with permission |
